27-year-old Alabama man charged with attempted rape by entering home, found with 400 pairs of women’s underwear
- John Thomas Uda, 27, has been charged with 50 counts of attempted rape, theft, serious criminal surveillance and solicitation.
- Uday is being held on a bond worth more than $1 million after officials said he assaulted a woman inside his home
- He was later found in possession of more than 400 pairs of women’s panties.

Dothan police said investigators found dozens of photographs of John Thomas Uda’s coworkers taken without their permission, neck down, increasing the visibility to 50 times, Dothan police said.
Uday, 27, is also facing charges of attempt to rape, three counts of theft, serious criminal surveillance and two counts of illegal possession of credit cards.
Police are trying to figure out how many of the 400 underwear of Parisian women may have been stolen. Investigators said the panties worn could also be bought over the Internet.
Dothan Police Lieutenant Scott Owens said, ‘We have a theory that some were bought online because there is a market for that.’ AL.com.
Officials said Uday was accused of stealing women’s underwear from a laundromat in 2019.
Uday was arrested on July 10 after a woman informed the police about breaking into a man’s apartment. The two had a fight and the woman was admitted to the hospital with ‘minor injuries’.
Police said Uday fled before officers arrived, but they determined his identity from the bill of sale for the woman’s stolen gaming console, police said.
Further investigation found that Uday had allegedly sexually assaulted her.
After being arrested, Uda is said to have confessed that he broke into the same apartment to steal the woman’s game console.
Uda faces other charges stemming from several separate incidents in which Uda allegedly took a woman home, saw her dressed and then took pictures of her debit card and her son’s Social Security card.
The state’s voyeurism law came into force only on September 1, 2019.
Alabama governor Kay Ivey signed an anti-virism bill that year outlawing ‘upskirting’ – which is when a woman’s skirt or blouse is taken off without her consent.
The law makes it an offense to take photographs without a person’s consent.
Jail records do not reveal whether Uday had a lawyer. He is being held on a one million dollar bond.
Dothan Police Lieutenant Scott Owens said, ‘If we can keep him in jail, the public will definitely be better off for it.’
