After the Maharashtra government last month announced the reopening of cinemas from October, filmmakers have been announcing release dates one after the other. Amidst this excitement, Rohit Shetty was one of the first filmmakers to announce that his much-awaited film Sooryavanshi will hit the theaters this Diwali. NS Akshay Kumar–Katrina Kaif Originally scheduled to release on March 24, 2020. Then after going through several delays, due to the pandemic and the subsequent second wave, it will finally get the grand release it was waiting for so long.
Though the exact date has not been revealed yet, a source close to the development told Bollywood Hungama that the film will release on November 5, a day after Diwali.
A trade expert further said, “Earlier it was a rule that the Diwali release would release on the day of Diwali. But on that day the collection gets affected as people are busy with worship and other activities. The day after Diwali is a holiday and can lead to record collection. In recent times, Happy New Year (2014), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Golmaal Again (2017), directed by Rohit Shetty, Thugs of Hindostan (2018) etc. released after Diwali. And all these films did a great first day collection.”
The expert further added, “The decision of the makers of Sooryavanshi is correct. The film has maintained the hype despite several delays. Despite the restrictions of the epidemic, it is set to open on a large scale. A big opening day will make waves and send out a strong message that Bollywood is back with a bang. This will be possible only when Sooryavanshi releases on November 5. Release on Diwali day will not help achieving this as earnings will be limited.
Sooryavanshi will also compete with Marvel, Eternal. “Remember how Hollywood film Joker (2019) and Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer War (2019) clashed and yet both the films did great business? Something similar could happen in the case of these two films as well,” concluded the trade expert.
Belonging to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, Sooryavanshi also features the characters of Singham (played by Ajay Devgn) and Simmba (played by Ranveer Singh).
