Akron firefighters pay tribute to those lost as they climb the ladder on 9/11 – World Latest News Headlines

Akron, Ohio – On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Akron firefighters took part in a stair climb to honor their fallen brothers who were killed in terrorist attacks.

“The events of September 11, 2001 marked the deadliest terrorist attacks in world history. The response of FDNY Fire Operations personnel to the World Trade Center was unprecedented in scale and scope, with over 200 fire units responding to all units in the city Their efforts were complemented by many off-duty firefighters and emergency medical technicians,” said Akon Fire Fighters Association Local 330. “Firefighters, police officers and EMS professionals climbed into the towers in the hopes of reaching everyone in the 110-story structures. While we may not fully understand the mindset or stress of that day, we can respect those. who answered calls for help and supported our local first responders through the work of the Security Forces Support Center.”

Serving primarily first responders in Summit County, but also available to Portage, Stark, Medina, Cuyahoga and Wayne counties, the Security Forces Support Center provides specialized services focusing on the unique job stresses that apply to law enforcement, EMS and the experience of dispatch personnel, which can have a significant impact on their physical, mental and emotional health. Its training programs are also offered to mental health professionals and pastors.”

The event was a collaboration between Akron Firefighters, the City of Akron, the Summit County Executive Office and the University of Akron.

“This event is an opportunity to pay tribute not only to firefighters, but to community first responders and civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. It will also raise funds to support our local Security Forces Support Center It helps. It is,” said Akron Fire District Chief David O’Neill.
