Guwahati: Akhil Gogoi, a farmer leader and president of Raizar Dal, has rejected Trinamool Congressmerger is proposed.
Akhil said at a press conference here on Sunday that he discussed the possibilities of a merger between the Raizar Dal and TMC Along with Prashant Kishor recently but refused to take charge of the state unit of TMC. He said that recently there were three discussions with the TMC leadership in Kolkata.

Though he did not reveal the details of the discussion, Akhil said that he last went to Kolkata for talks on Friday. After two days of discussion, he returned to Guwahati on Saturday evening. “TMC has a direct proposal that the Raizar Dal should be merged with its party forever. Mamata Banerjee proposes that I should take the lead and take over the Assam state committee of TMC as its president,” Akhil said.
However, he said that the Raizar Dal has not yet accepted the proposal, but has expressed its desire to form a united front with the TMC. “We want to work in coordination with TMC to defeat a common platform of regional parties in India” BJP. I have no ambition to become the president of Trinamool.
“By portraying Mamata Banerjee as the prime ministerial candidate, a consortium of regional forces can advance talks with the Congress and the Left. Our efforts are on to defeat BJP on the same lines. RSS,” she added.
In Assam, Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF is the only obstacle hindering the Congress-led Mahajot’s alliance with the Raijar Dal. Akhil criticized the AIUDF as a communal party of Muslims, as he lambasted the BJP for resorting to communal politics around Hindus.
A Congress delegation headed by the working presidents of CongressAssam’s Assam unit Rana Goswami and Zakir Hussain Sikdar met Akhil and other senior party leaders at Raijor Dal office here on Sunday evening to strengthen ties between anti-BJP parties. “It is our policy to be anti-BJP and anti-AIUDF. There can be no compromise with this,” Akhil said.
“Nothing is permanent in politics. The AIUDF may not be part of the Congress-led alliance tomorrow. If AIUDF stays with Congress, we cannot be a part of their alliance,” he claimed, adding that a section of Congress MLAs want the old party to break ties with AIUDF.
Raijor Dal is securing all kinds of victory over the Muslim vote bank of AIUDF. Akhil had alleged that Ajmal’s party had failed to address him. NRC, “D” (doubtful) voters and detention camp issues that a large number of Muslims are facing.
Meanwhile, the current state committee of TMC is still in the dark about the political developments in Kolkata. TMC’s Assam unit president (in-charge) Gopi Nath Das told TOI that he has been kept out of the ongoing discussion. Despite the existence of the party’s 17 district committees, the TMC failed to make any impact in the 2021 Assam elections, where it mainly focused on minority-majority areas in lower Assam and the Barak Valley. “We are hopeful that TMC will scale new heights in Assam politics soon. Our party is going to be an alternative to Congress and AIUDF, especially in the minority area in Assam. Let’s wait two more years,” he said.
