Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab seems to be in a dilemma amid the farmers’ agitation against the 3 new agricultural laws of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. Party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal’s plan to visit 100 assembly seats in 100 days under the ‘Gal Punjab Di’ program hangs in balance. After the police lathi-charge on farmers opposing Sukhbir’s program in Moga on September 2, now the Akali Dal is unable to take a decision on resuming this program. This is the reason why the program which was postponed for 6 days could not start even after the lapse of 8 days. Meanwhile, the Akali Dal has decided that it will take out a big march in favor of farmers in New Delhi on September 17. In fact, last year i.e. on September 17, 2020, all three agricultural laws were passed in Parliament.

According to the Akali Dal, on September 17, its march will start from Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib in New Delhi to the Parliament House. According to party spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema, in this march, apart from Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal workers will also participate from other states. Cheema said that the decision to take out this march in favor of farmers was taken in the meeting of district presidents, MLAs and light in-charges of the party. However, Cheema did not make it clear whether Sukhbir Badal’s program to cover 100 assembly seats in 100 days would be resumed or canceled after this March.

The sacrilege incident during the tenure of the previous Shiromani Akali Dal-led government in Punjab has shaken the party’s base. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are also blaming Akali Dal for the 3 new agriculture bills passed by the central government. Congress alleges that Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who was in the Modi cabinet at that time, did not raise any objection to these bills. Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has also made public the videos of Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir and Harsimrat Badal, telling the merits of these bills.

Akali wants the support of farming leaders on farming laws team

On the other hand Akali Dal has broken the alliance with BJP to get back its lost support base and now it wants to get the support of farmer unions in any case. This is the reason why Sukhbir Badal is not restarting his ‘Gal Punjab Di’ program after the warning of United Kisan Morcha. Recently, in a meeting with the leaders of United Kisan Morcha in Chandigarh, the leaders of the Akali Dal had said that in a democratic system, political parties can keep their word among the public only through political programs, so they were allowed to start their programs again. Go and find a middle ground on this issue.

meetings NS round Ongoing
After postponing the program to cover 100 assembly seats in 100 days under the ‘Gal Punjab Di’ programme, meetings with leaders of Sukhbir Badal’s Akali Dal and its ally Bahujan Samaj Party are on. Sukhbir first called a meeting of the coordination committee of Bahujan Samaj Party and Akali Dal and on Saturday took a meeting of district presidents and light in-charges of Akali Dal. In these meetings, it was considered that what path should be adopted to reach out to the people without offending the farmers’ organizations. Sukhbir Badal knows very well that if he ignores the warnings of the United Kisan Morcha and resumes his political program in the current environment of Punjab, then he may have to bear the brunt of it by losing his vote bank.

moga rally Of after From Cancelled Huh program
On September 2, during Sukhbir Badal’s program in Moga, there was a clash between the farmers and the police. Then the police had lathi-charged the farmers for pelting stones. After that a criminal case was registered against 200 farmers. The day after this incident, on 3 September, the Akali Dal announced that it was postponing its programs for six days. In this context, the programs of the Akali Dal were to start again from September 10, but before that, the Akali Dal wrote a letter to the leaders of the United Kisan Morcha, urging that they want to talk with the Morcha. After the Akali Dal’s letter, the United Kisan Morcha called a meeting of all political parties of Punjab except the BJP in Chandigarh on September 10 and made it clear that no party will campaign until the Election Commission makes an official announcement of the election. Will do If any party does this then it will be considered as anti-farmer.
