Aishwarya Rajesh-starrer Kana to release in China on March 18

Director Arunaraja Kamaraj’s critically acclaimed female-centric sports film, Kaana, starring Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead, will release in China on March 18. Kana is the second Tamil film to be released in China after Rajinikanth’s 2.0.

The film was bankrolled by Sivakarthikeyan who also played a cameo role in the film. Kana also marked the debut of Sivakarthikeyan as a producer.

Earlier, announcing the film’s release in China, Sivakarthikeyan wrote on Twitter, “Happy to announce that our @SKProdOffl debut #Kana now to release in China on 18th March, 2022 Ready, a proud moment for our entire #Kana team.”

Arunaraja Kamaraj wrote and directed the film, with music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas and cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan. The film was released theatrically on 21 December 2018. Aishwarya and Sivakarthikeyan reprized their roles in Kana, the Telugu remake of Kaushalya Krishnamurthy.

Kaana also starred Satyaraj, Darshan, Ilavarasu, Ramdas, Rama and Anthony Bhardwaj in pivotal roles. Kanna’s story revolves around Satyaraj (a farmer) and his daughter, who aspires to become a cricketer.

Murugesan (played by Satyaraj) has a daughter, Kaushalya Murugesan aka Kausi (Aishwarya Rajesh). She aspires to become an international cricketer so that she can please her cricket-crazy father by helping the country win.

In the opening scenes of the film, Murugesan is very excited to watch India’s match in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. However, when India lose to Sri Lanka in the group stages and are knocked out of the World Cup, it is heartbroken.

Murugesan controls her emotions in front of her daughter, yet she sees her crying all night. For her father’s sake, 11-year-old Cousie wants to take cricket seriously, represent her country and one day win the World Cup. The rest of the film is about Aishwarya’s struggle to make the national team.

Kana is releasing in China at a time when the cases of Kovid are increasing.
