Airport Mega Mall: 28 Lakh Sq. Ft., 8000-Car Parking

The mall culture in the country is declining, with many malls standing deserted. However, this news might change your perspective as efforts are once again underway to build the country’s largest mall. Despite already having some of the best malls in the country, such as the Lulu Mall in Kochi, which is not only the largest mall in India but also ranks second in Asia, a new mall is being planned that will surpass even this. The most remarkable aspect of this new project is that the mall will be built at an airport.

The current largest mall in the country is approximately 2.11 million square feet. Located in Kochi, the Lulu Mall houses around 300 stores. Other notable malls on the largest malls list include the Great India Place and DLF Mall of India in Noida. However, the new mall being planned will surpass all of these, offering not only more stores but also additional facilities.

This mall is being constructed alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Aerocity (IGI Airport). With an investment of approximately ₹21,000 crore, the mall is expected to be completed by 2027. It will also be the country’s first aerotropolis mall.

The mall being constructed at Delhi Airport can be gauged from the fact that while the current largest mall in the country is 2.11 million square feet, the new mall will span approximately 2.8 million square feet. This means it will be about 700,000 square feet larger. Moreover, the total construction area around the airport for offices, retail, food courts, and entertainment will cover 18 million square feet. The new mall will be nearly twice the size of the existing mall in Vasant Kunj, Delhi.

Bharti Realty’s MD and CEO, S.K. Sayal, stated that before building the country’s largest mall, they sent teams worldwide to plan the best facilities. This Aerocity will be fully developed by 2029, accommodating around 2 million workers and increasing Delhi Airport’s annual capacity to 140 million. A new terminal will be developed for this purpose. The mall will also feature underground parking for 8,000 cars.
