A male passenger traveling on a Mumbai-Delhi Air India flight was arrested for allegedly defecating, urinating and spitting on the plane. According to a report in ANI, the incident took place on June 24, 2023 when a male passenger traveling from Mumbai to Delhi on Air India flight AIC 866 (AI-866) was manhandled in row 9 of the aircraft. Officials reported that the passenger, a cook from Africa, was seated at 17F. According to the FIR lodged by the flight captain at the police station of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the flight was mid-air on June 24 when the passenger sitting on seat no. 17F defecated, urinated and spit on the plane.
The FIR further states that this misbehavior was noticed by the cabin crew and subsequently, a verbal warning was issued by the cabin supervisor of the flight. Later the flight captain was also informed about the misbehavior. As per the complaint, the fellow passengers were incensed and agitated by the misbehavior and as soon as the flight landed at the Delhi airport, the Air India security chief noticed and took the accused passenger to the IGI airport police station.
Further, as per the FIR registered after the incident, a message was immediately sent to the company and airport security was requested to escort the passenger on arrival. The accused passenger works as a cook in Africa and was going to Delhi on Air India flight AIC 866 on June 24.
Speaking to ANI, a senior Delhi Police officer said, “On the complaint of the flight captain, Delhi Police registered a case under section 294/510 at IGI police station and arrested the accused passenger. We produced him before Did.” A court granted him bail. Further investigation is underway.”
As seen on flight tracking website FlightAware, the airline operates flight AI866 from Mumbai to Delhi on a daily basis. The flight takes off from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 9 am and lands at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 11.10 am. The airline has deployed Airbus A321 aircraft for the flight.
