Air India colleagues protest at Dum Dum airport over the death of an employee in the accident

Other workers protested the death of a contract worker in the accident at Dum Dum airport. They staged a sit-in in front of the Air India office at the airport on Saturday demanding compensation. Contract workers claim that their remuneration is negligible even if they work as permanent employees. Air India officials don’t care about anything else.

Contract worker Sanjeet Roy died when his tractor overturned at the Dum Dum airport on Friday afternoon. After this the protests started. Air India officials reportedly did not even arrange for an ambulance to take the injured Sanjeet to the hospital. Protests started in the morning after his death on Saturday night. According to employees, Air India has only 19 permanent employees at Dum Dum airport. There are about 1800 temporary workers. They are made to do the job for a small fee. They have to drive old abandoned cars. The permanent employees may have got the corona vaccine, but the temporary employees did not get the vaccine. If any equipment gets damaged due to any reason, then the officials recover compensation from them. On that day the protesters demanded financial compensation for the family of Sanjeet Babu.

Union President and Dum Dum MP Saugata Rai has supported the demand of the workers. He said, ‘The contracting company does not give any chance to the workers. On the contrary, they take extra time.
