Surat: Three patients undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Ahmedabad got a new lease of life on Friday thanks to organs donated by a 55-year-old brain-dead man. Kantibhai Dhandhukia’s liver was transplanted into a 55-year-old female patient from Ahmedabad, while his kidney was harvested by the Institute for Kidney Diseases and Research.IKDRC) for transplantation.
Dhandhukia, a resident of olpad He was declared brain-dead by Surat district doctors on Thursday at Jaiben Modi Hospital in Ankleshwar town of Bharuch district. Dhandukia was undergoing treatment at the hospital after an accident on Wednesday.
Dhandukia was seriously injured after being hit by a wild boar’s bike on the Hansot-Olapad road. A passerby took her to a nearby hospital and later Dhandukia was shifted to Jaiben Modi Hospital. The doctors treating him found that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage.
After declaring Dhandhukia brain dead on Thursday, doctors informed Donate Life founder Nilesh Mandlewala about the matter. “As soon as we got the message, we reached the hospital and met the members of the Dhandhukia family and explained to them about organ donation. The family agreed for the body donation,” Mandlewala said.
“After obtaining the consent, we contacted Dr Pranjal Modi, convener of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) in Ahmedabad, for further processing. The liver was allotted to the Ahmedabad-based private hospital and two kidneys were harvested by the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center (IKDRC),” Mandlewala told TOI.
“Our entire family is involved in charitable activities. my brother Manoj He is a regular blood donor. my brother in law Mukesh Daksha is also engaged in social activities through Prajapati Foundation. We have lost our father, but his organs will give new life to three people,” said Dhandhukia’s son Pradeep.
Dhandhukia is survived by wife Kamuben (54), son Pradeep, PankajManoj and daughter Sheetal.
