Ahead of Gazette Notification, Godavari Board will move Vevar Peddavagu from Telangana

The Godavari Board discussed irrigation projects for maintenance, before the implementation of the gazette notification likely from October 15 as directed by the Centre. The Center recently issued a gazette notification to end the conflict between the two warring states over irrigation projects, water sharing and related matters.

Telangana Irrigation Principal Secretary Rajat Kumar reiterated the government’s stand to defer the gazette notification.

He told the media that the state government has appealed to the Godavari Board to refrain from implementing the gazette notification on irrigation projects. Rajat Kumar said that the government will take a decision on this after getting the full report.

“On behalf of the state, we have asked the board to defer the gazette notification till we take a decision,” he said.

The secretary also said that the Godavari board has to take over Peddavagu in the Telangana region.

“Our state is opposed to the board for taking up all the projects and AP is in favor of giving them all,” he said.

The board may take one peddavagu and not all projects right now.

The two boards of Krishna and Godavari have asked the states to pay Rs 200 crore for maintenance and the Telangana government is yet to take a decision on this.

The AP government is in favor of giving all projects to the Godavari board and the state of Telangana is not ready for it, he clarified.

During his Delhi visit, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had appealed to the Center to postpone the gazette notification. The CM appealed to Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Shekhawat to defer the gazette notification and take only old projects under his purview.

It has to be seen what decision the Center takes after receiving the report.
