Isha Foundation’s spiritual guru Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on Saturday said violent protests against the Agneepath scheme were “unacceptable”. Addressing reporters, he said, “I have not seen the (Agneepath) policy myself, but whatever the policy, the violence you are seeing is unacceptable.”
“Burning our country is not an option. No matter how many disagreements I have, I cannot burn my country,” said the spiritual leader. Army candidates created ruckus in some parts of the country against Agneepath The scheme, which provides short-term service of four years to young recruits from the age of 17-and-a-half years. These recruits will be called ‘Agniveer’.
At the end of their service they may be offered continuous service in the army or they will be paid around Rs 11.5 lakh. The Center said that these firefighters would be given preference in the Central Armed Police Forces.
