After weeks of border unrest, Mizoram now battling high positivity rate, gives momentum to Kerala

Mizoram recorded the highest positivity rate in the county at 16.4%, which is one percentage point higher than Kerala.

Mizoram recorded its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, with 1,502 more people, including 300 children, testing positive for the infection, taking the state’s tally to 72,883, a health official said. He said that the death toll from the coronavirus in the north-eastern state rose to 244 as six more people succumbed to the infection.

However, the daily test positivity rate declined to 16.39 per cent from 31 per cent the previous day, as 9,165 samples were tested for the infection. He said that Aizawl district recorded the maximum number of 879 cases, followed by Champhai (144) and Siyaha (101). At least 300 children, two health workers and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan are among the new patients, the official said.

He said five new patients have travel history, while the remaining 1,497 infections were detected during contact-tracing. Mizoram now has 13,366 active cases, while 59,273 people have recovered from the infection so far, including 526 on Monday.

The recovery rate of corona virus in the state is 81.32 percent, while the death rate is 0.33 percent. He said that the state has so far tested more than 9.74 lakh samples. State Immunization Officer Dr Laljavmi said that so far more than 6.64 lakh people have been vaccinated, out of which 3 lakh people have been fully vaccinated.
