New Delhi: Five people were killed and nine injured after a wall collapsed in Delhi’s Alipore, with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) ordering a probe into the incident and suspending a junior engineer and an assistant engineer, a Senior official said on Saturday (July 16). “An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and action has been taken. A junior engineer and an assistant engineer have been suspended,” a senior MCD official was quoted as saying by PTI.

The MCD official said an inquiry was ordered on the directions of the Municipal Commissioner and action was initiated after “serious cognizance of the unfortunate incident” in Bakoli village.

Delhi Police had informed on Friday that a case has been registered and two people have been arrested.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that he was monitoring the relief work and expressed grief over the deaths due to the wall collapse. In a tweet in Hindi, Kejriwal said, “A very sad incident happened in Alipore. District administration is engaged in relief and rescue work. I am monitoring the relief operations. I pray for the souls of the dead.”
