Telangana Congress has finalized former minister Konda Surekha as party candidate for Huzurabad Assembly Constituency by-election. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy has decided to field Surekha, who switched allegiance to the Congress after clashing with the TRS leadership, for the bypoll.
Reddy sent a list of candidates to Congress President Sonia Gandhi after discussing with senior party leaders about fielding Surekha in the Huzurabad bypoll.
Gandhi is believed to have given the list of candidates to Congress’s Telangana unit in-charge Manickam Tagore. Reportedly, the names in the list are Konda Surekha (BC), Krishna Reddy (OC) and Sadanandam (SC).
Sources further said that the Congress party will soon make an official announcement of Surekha’s name for the Huzurabad by-election.
Sources said that after getting the final nod from Gandhi in a few days, Reddy will announce Surekha’s name as the Congress candidate for the Huzurabad bypoll. However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the schedule for the by-polls.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has announced that its student wing president Gelu Srinivas Yadav will be its candidate for the Huzurabad assembly constituency bypoll. The decision to field the President of Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi Vibhag (TRSV) as the candidate of the ruling party has been taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
TRS has chosen Yadav and BJP has to contest either Eatala Rajender or his wife Jamuna Reddy from Huzurabad as the seat has become coveted for all political parties.
