The Maharashtra government has announced a scheme to provide a monthly stipend, in the range of Rs 6,000-10,000, to young people for six-month internships in various industries. The initiative, Mukhya Mantri Yuva Karyaprashikshan Yojana, aims to enhance skill training and boost employability among the state’s youths.
Announced during the state budget among a range of welfare initiatives, the scheme received official Cabinet nod on Monday. It is set to benefit around 10 lakh youths and is estimated to cost approximately Rs 10,000 crore.
GR TO BE RELEASED SOON
Although the state government is yet to issue a detailed Government Resolution (GR), officials aware of the matter elaborated on details of the scheme.
- Rs 6,000 per month for Class 12 pass
- Rs 8,000 to diploma holders
- Rs 10,000 to graduates and postgraduates
A mobile application will likely be developed to facilitate the application process for the programme. Beneficiaries will undergo a week-long training focusing on both soft skills and domain-specific knowledge.
Currently, there are no qualifying criteria, implying that all eligible applicants might receive aid. A government resolution detailing the scheme’s modalities is expected to be released soon.
CM SHINDE UNVEILS SCHEME IN PANDHARPUR
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unveiled the initiative on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi Day in Pandharpur on Wednesday. He stressed the importance of this stipend in helping students gain crucial work experience through apprenticeships, enhancing their employability.
“Our government is focusing on creating a skilled workforce…This decision will increase the number of skilled youth in the industry, and students will benefit greatly from this stipend while doing apprenticeships,” said Shinde.
Shinde emphasised that this initiative is part of the Mahayuti government’s broader efforts to tackle unemployment and support the youth of Maharashtra. “Students will receive this money for a year-long apprenticeship. After this, they will have gained work experience, which will help them secure jobs,” he explained.
He further highlighted that it is a first-of-its-kind scheme introduced by any government in the country. The stipend is designed to enable students to gain practical experience in factories and other industries, easing their transition into the workforce.
‘BROTHERS TOO ARE DEAR TO US’
Shinde reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the underprivileged. “The grand coalition government belongs to the poor. Along with sisters, brothers are also dear to us,” he said.
This announcement marks a significant step towards creating a skilled workforce, reducing unemployment, and providing financial support to students as they gain valuable work experience.
Earlier this month, an additional interim budget was presented by the ruling Mahayuti government, in which they announced Rs 1,500 monthly financial help scheme for eligible women, ‘Laadki Bahin’ (dear sisters), in the state. The state’s scheme got tremendous response.
While these schemes will put pressure on the government coffers, after debacle in the general elections, the state government wants to woo the youth and women ahead of the assembly polls.
