Indian pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh set the WPL auction on fire, and they also move up in the latest ICC rankings

India’s Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh have moved up to 11th and 36th positions respectively among batsmen in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings released on Tuesday.

Jemimah was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore, while Richa Ghosh went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 1.90 crore in the recently concluded Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction 2023 in Mumbai.

Rodrigues has moved from 13th to 11th after scoring an unbeaten 52, while Ghosh has moved from 42nd to 36th after scoring an unbeaten 31.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who missed the opener due to a finger injury, continues to top the number three spot.

Mandhana was the talk of the town as she became the costliest player in the WPL auction after being picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.4 crore.

Mandhana’s opening partner Shefali Verma also remained at the 10th position.

Alyssa Healy’s 55 against New Zealand has seen her move up two places to seventh, while Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, who is the leading run-scorer in the tournament so far with 83 runs, has had a memorable win over South Africa. The victory also included a match-winning innings of 68 runs. She has reached the ninth position with an increase of one place.

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews (up four places to 18th), Ireland’s Gabby Lewis (up two places to 22nd) and Australia’s Ellyse Perry (up four places to 25th) are the other players to have benefited from the update, Which considering the performance in the first seven. In the bowling rankings, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone and South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba have consolidated their position as the top two.

Ecclestone, who is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with six wickets, has moved from 763 to 776 rating points, while Mlaba has gained 17 rating points to reach 770 rating points.

Meanwhile, Ashley Gardner has jumped seven places to sixth after winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award for her five-for-12 haul against New Zealand.

She remains the top-ranked all-rounder in the format while Hayley Matthews and New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr have gained one place each to reach the third and fourth spots.

England leg-spinner Sarah Glenn has moved up to the third spot while former Sri Lanka captain Inoka Ranaweera has jumped 11 places to reach the 10th spot.

Fran Jones, Alana King, Amelia Kerr, Darcy Brown, Nashara Sandhu and Oshadi Ranasinghe are among others making progress.
