After New Zealand snub, Hanuma Vihari included in India ‘A’ squad bound for South Africa

Hanuma Vihari has been included in the India ‘A’ squad for the tour of South Africa.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced a 16-man squad for the upcoming 2-match Test series against New Zealand. The series will begin after the conclusion of three T20 Internationals.

India middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari, who was dropped for the two-match Test series against New Zealand, has been included in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa. Vihari was the subject of discussion on social media after the BCCI made the team public, which had Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara as the captain and vice-captain respectively.

Vihari’s exit made news as he is not getting a regular place in the team. He last played a Test match for India in January and his fans were concerned whether they had seen the last of his idol; Also, he is currently playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament and it was understood that he is in the scheme of things. Earlier in May, he was playing the County Championship in England, in which he scored just one half-century in six innings for Warwickshire earlier this year. Vihari also played a warm-up match against County XI in the lead-up to the England series in July and scored an unbeaten 24 and 43.

He took part in India’s historic Test series win in Australia and garnered some fans for his rock solid defensive batting, which was crucial for his team in saving the Sydney Test earlier this year. That was his last international match. He was also part of the team when England arrived in March, but didn’t get a game.
