Brazil’s Dani Alves has confirmed his departure from Barcelona when his contract expires at the end of this month, a second time to the LaLiga club after spending a little more than six months following his arrival as a free agent. Excluding.

The 39-year-old right-back won six LaLiga titles and three Champions League trophies during his first stint with Barcelona from 2008-16.

“After more than eight years dedicated to these colors, it’s time to say goodbye,” Alves wrote on Instagram.

“Many more years passed until football and life, who, as always, are so grateful to those who respected him, decided to give me the opportunity to come back here to say goodbye.”

Alves played 16 games in all competitions last season as Barcelona finished second in LaLiga, 13 points behind eventual champions Real Madrid.

The Brazilian, who has represented his national team in over 100 matches, was brought in by his former teammate and current Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández in the hopes of saving the team in the LaLiga standings.

“I want to thank all the staff for giving me the opportunity to come back to this club and be able to wear that great shirt again,” Alves said.

“I hope they don’t miss my madness and daily joy. I hope those who stay will change the history of this beautiful club. I want it from the bottom of my heart.”

After leaving Barcelona for the first time, Alves has previously played for Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo. He had agreed to keep his salary to a minimum, which helped Barcelona avoid breaching financial fair play rules.
