After clouds over KL Rahul, Indian team likely to miss another key star in Asia Cup 2023

The Indian cricket team will be in full swing in the ODI mode when they play a three-match series at the home of the Windies. The Men in Blue will then play the Asia Cup 2023, which will be a great preparation for the ODI World Cup later in the year. Though India are looking to field their best XI, their wish may not materialize as some of the stars are on the sidelines, battling injuries or undergoing rehabilitation.

In the latest development, India’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to feature in the Asia Cup 2023. Earlier, there was a report that KL Rahul There is also a possibility of missing out on a regional event. Now Iyer’s fitness remains a headache for the Indian management.

According to a report in The Times of India, Iyer is doubtful for the Asia Cup as he is suffering from a back problem. “Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

Rahul may also miss the Asia Cup

Recently there was a report in Cricbuzz that Rahul might miss the Asia Cup as well as he is unlikely to reach the tournament on time. While Iyer is undergoing rehab for his back problem, Rahul is rehabbing for his thigh surgery.

Notably, Iyer had also undergone his back surgery in London in early April. He was part of India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar series, but missed the final Test due to a recurring problem in his back. The middle-order batsman then missed the Indian Premier League 2023 and was also not a part of the World Test Championship. Iyer has also not been named in India’s Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour.
