Afghanistan: Twitter removes blue verification badges from accounts of some ministries
Local media reported that Twitter has removed verified badges from the accounts of various Afghan government ministries. The US micro-blogging and social networking platform has removed the blue verification badge from the Twitter accounts of the State Department, the Defense Ministry, the Home Office, the Presidential Palace and the National Procurement Authority.
The country plunged into crisis last month after Kabul fell into the hands of the Taliban and the democratically elected government of former President Ashraf Ghani. According to the publication, since the fall of Ghani’s regime, no posts have been shared on these Twitter accounts.
As reported by Pajwok Afghan News, verification badges were removed from the Twitter accounts of some of these ministries and intuitions at a time when similar badges still exist on the accounts of former presidents Ashraf Ghani, Hamid Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah, among others.
Apart from this, the blue badge has been removed from the account of former Vice President Amrulla Saleh but it is present in the account of another Vice President Sarwar Danesh.
The Taliban have captured Kabul after an aggressive and swift advance against Afghan government forces amid the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from the country.
