The players and support staff, who have been camping in Kochi, Kerala since the team’s return from Brazil, will fly to Mumbai on Thursday, January 13, 2021.
In Group A of the competition, India were drawn against IR Iran (January 20), Chinese Taipei (January 23) and China PR (January 26) with 12 teams.
With 15 players under the age of 25 on a relatively young team, Dennerby believes that “young and experienced groups can help each other out, both on and off the pitch.”
“We have a good group of young players, and some experienced chiefs as well. The youngsters are hungry to prove themselves, so that brings with it a good level of energy and healthy competition for places,” Dennerby said. “But it also works the other way around – because experienced players can guide youngsters in different things on and off the pitch.”
The coach also said that the team is getting closer to “one game at a time”.
“If you start thinking too much about permutations and combinations, it can take a toll on the way you play the game. Coaches can think all we can, but for players, it’s all there.” It’s about going out and playing well. Football is a ‘beautiful game’ and to play it well you need to live in the moment.”
