ADB loan for setting up a university in Mangaldoi | Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Friday signed a loan agreement with the Assam Skill Development Mission for setting up a university at Mangaldoi. The estimated cost of the project is US$140 million.
The state government has allotted 250 bighas of land and the construction work is expected to start early next year. The project is likely to be completed by 2027.
The loan agreement was signed between ADB Country Director Takeo Konishi and Assam Skill Development Mission Director Adil Khan. State Industries, Commerce and Skill Development Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary described the event as a major achievement for building a pool of skilled manpower in Assam.
“With an investment of $140 million, this first Government Skills University in Eastern India will provide global quality skill education to our youth, ensuring employment and industrial growth,” the minister wrote on Twitter.
ADB has approved a loan of USD 112 million to strengthen skills education and training through the establishment of the university. According to an official statement, an additional grant of USD one million is also being provided by ADB in the form of technical assistance.
As per the detailed project report, nine schools have been proposed under the university that will cater to the needs of local entrepreneurs, startups and micro, small and medium enterprises for technology, skills and businesses.
