Actress Smriti Kalra: I Would Never Have Got into Acting If 12/24 Karol Bagh… | Exclusive

Actress Smriti Kalra started her acting journey from Delhi as a lead actress in the TV show 12/24 Karol Bagh. She became a part of successful daily shows like Suvereen Guggal – Topper of the Year, Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara, Itti Si Khushi and many more. But if you ask her, becoming an actress was never her plan. Smriti, an army kid, has been an avid and avid traveler since childhood. All she knew was that she wanted to pursue journalism. 12/24 Smriti Kalra, who won hearts with her character Simmi in Karol Bagh, revealed in a conversation with News18 that she would never have ventured into acting if the show was not shot in Delhi.

She said, “The set of 12/24 was in Delhi and that is one of the reasons why I became an actress. If that set was not in Delhi, I would never have got into acting. There was no way. I remember in my house I didn’t even have a cable connection till college, didn’t even have DD. I didn’t have any Femina connection to Filmfare or showbiz whatsoever. I came from that mindset, so it’s a big achievement,” shared Smriti.

The actress also revealed that she was offered the script of Suvereen Guggal- Topper of the Year during the filming for her first show. Smriti further revealed that she was approached for several films during the shooting of Suwarin Guggal but she was not that serious about them.

She said, “I didn’t realize that I was lucky, because people get these opportunities after working so hard. Unfortunately, I was not even aware of this fact. I remember, whenever the shoot was over, I used to run Used to go – without combing my hair. I then went looking for films and I was always up for challenges. I took my first film Cash – which was a situation comedy, and then after doing several projects, now I’m in the movies.”

Talking about the challenges she faced at the beginning of her journey in the city of dreams, the actress shared, “Looking for houses is not easy and I didn’t tell anyone that I am here, which Even the younger ones knew me. I found a place where I knew a gym was close by. For six months I worked out in the gym and came home and slept – that’s all I did. Later, I started getting roles.”

The actress also became a part of Rohit Shetty’s Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi season 10 for two episodes. Smriti shared that it was a lovely experience to be a part of the show. She said, “Coming from an army background, the lifestyle and background I have seen has attracted me to adventure sports. I did the show for my best friend Shivin Narang and it was great fun. Rohit Shetty was very kind. He liked me a lot and told me that I will be on the show in the next season. That really turns you on. I had good relations with him. On set, he’s very funny, and the kind of energy you want in an adventure show.”

Talking about her upcoming project Kaagaz 2, Smriti shared that it is a pleasure working with Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar and Neena Gupta in the film. Revealing about her role, she said, “I am playing the role of a modern girl. She articulates her thoughts in the right way. A part of me definitely relates to the role I played in Kaagaz 2. We are currently dubbing for the film.

“I feel fortunate to be a part of Kaagaz 2 and that’s when I loved the writing of the film. When I auditioned for it, I told Satish Kaushik sir, ‘Maybe you will find someone who will be more fit for this role than me. But in my heart and mind, I am doing this role and he laughed out loud.
