New Delhi: Bollywood actress Rimi Sen, whose real name is Subhmitra Sen, joined the Congress party in Uttarakhand on Monday, 7 February. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat welcomed him into the party.
According to Rawat, Rimi Sen will become an icon of change and will pave the way for positive change. The former CM expressed happiness over the actor joining the Congress party.
Welcoming Rimi Sen into the party, Rawat said, “Rimi Sen is a well-known name in the film industry and a former star icon of the BJP. It gives me immense pleasure to welcome her to the Congress party, as she brings a breeze. Come to Uttarakhand for change.

Rimmi Sen, a Bengali, can be seen as an attempt by the Congress to woo Bengali voters in the state, especially in Udham Singh Nagar district.
The district has a large Bengali population. It is said that members of the community settled in the area in 1951-52 after migrating from Bangladesh (erstwhile East Pakistan) after partition.
According to reports, more people came in the 1960s and after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the defeat of Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh. They gradually settled in Rudrapur and Shakti Farm area of the district. At present, Khatima, Nanakmatta, Sitarganj, Gadarpur, Bajpur are some of the other areas of US Nagar which have a significant number of Bengalis.
Looking at Rimi Sen’s acting career, she has been a part of popular Bollywood movies like ‘Hungama’, ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Golmaal’. She was also a part of Salman Khan starrer ‘Kyun Ki’. He also participated in the television reality show Bigg Boss in 2015.
