Ranveer Singh was on Thursday named the National Basketball Association (NBA) brand ambassador for India. The Bollywood star says that he has been in love with basketball and NBA since childhood.
Ranveer said, “I have loved basketball and the NBA since childhood and have always been fascinated by its impact on popular culture, including music, fashion and entertainment.”
In this capacity, Ranveer will work with the NBA to help raise the league’s profile in India during its historic 75th anniversary season in 2021–22.
“With the NBA celebrating its 75th season, there couldn’t have been a better time to join forces with the league and support their efforts to grow basketball in the country.”
The “Gully Boy” star will attend the NBA All-Star 2022 in Cleveland, where he will post behind-the-scenes social media content and meet NBA players and legends. Ranveer previously attended the NBA All-Star 2016 in Toronto, where he sat courtside in the NBA All-Star Game.
NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum said: “An icon of Bollywood and one of the most celebrated actors of his generation, Ranveer is also a devoted NBA fan who is passionate about the league and its players. We are with him. Excited to work together. Ranveer will engage with fans in India and across the globe on various platforms.”
“Ranveer is the perfect ambassador to headline the launch of our new Instagram handle, NBA Style, which explores the intersection of basketball and culture,” said Scott Levy, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, NBA Asia.
