Through a calling attention motion, Shinde raised the issue of no action by the Maharashtra sugar commissioner against Baramati Agro Ltd, a sugar mill linked to Pawar, who is the grandson of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLC Ram Shinde on Thursday targeted his colleague in the Maharashtra Legislative Council and Cooperation Minister Atul Save for allegedly delaying action on a sugar mill linked to Nationalist Congress Party MLA Rohit Pawar.

Shinde, through a calling attention motion, raised the issue of no action by the Maharashtra sugar commissioner against Baramati Agro Ltd, a sugar mill linked to Pawar, who is the grandson of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

Incidentally, Rohit Pawar had defeated Shinde in the 2019 assembly elections. Shinde became MLC in June last year.

“Indapur-based Baramati Agro Limited started its crushing ahead of the scheduled date of October 15, when all mills were to start their crushing season. Shinde said in the House, despite several complaints, the sugar commissioner did not take any strong action against the mill.

The reply said that necessary action will be taken against the mill, adding that an FIR has already been lodged against its management.

Shinde insisted that the sugar commissioner has taken five months to act against the mill, saying there was no point in taking action so late.

Shinde also said that the sugar commissioner and the cooperative department acted only after raising the issue, adding that the FIR and complaints were filed only a few days ago.

When Sawe tried to explain his side, Shinde interrupted him by saying that no strong action had been taken against the mill and claimed that the sugar commissioner should be held responsible for such delay.

Save and Shinde argued for some time on this issue.

Save later stated that the Sugar Commissionerate would investigate the matter without the involvement of the Sugar Commissioner.
