Punjab government has issued guidelines for release of ex-gratia amount to the next of kin of those who died due to corona. State Deputy Chief Minister Om Prakash Soni said that as per the directions of the Supreme Court, the state government will give Rs 50,000 to the kin of those who died due to corona. He also told that those who have the corona death certificate of the deceased can directly take the compensation amount by submitting an application to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of that district.

Similarly, the kin of the victims of Corona who do not have a death certificate, will submit an application to the same committee constituted by the Punjab Government under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, stating the cause of death. The Punjab government has already issued a notification regarding the formation of these committees. According to the notification, Additional Deputy Commissioner has been appointed as the Chairman, Civil Surgeon as Member Secretary and Assistant Civil Surgeon as Member Convener.

Similarly, if there is a government medical college in the district, then its principal/medical superintendent and the head of the medical department have been included as members. The epidemiologist in-charge of the district’s Kovid-19 cell has also been included as a member. Om Prakash Soni informed that the committee will meet within 30 days of receipt of the application and will be bound to take further action.

Can apply for correction in death certificate

Om Prakash Soni also said that if the relatives of the deceased do not agree with the cause of death in the certificate issued by the hospital, then they can also apply for rectification of the certificate based on the facts. In addition, if a person dies of COVID within 30 days of being confirmed to be COVID positive, his heirs are also entitled to the grant. At the same time, if a hospitalized corona patient dies after 30 days of hospitalization, then his family members are also entitled to receive this assistance.
