In yet another incident of aircraft malfunction, the engine of a Calicut-bound Air India Express flight caught fire, leading to an emergency landing at the Abu Dhabi airport on Friday, Air India officials said. The airline further said that all passengers are safe.

According to the DGCA, there were 184 passengers on board when the flight took off. ,

DGCA said that the Air India Express B737-800 aircraft returned to Abu Dhabi airport due to mid-air fire.

“Today an Air India Express B737-800 aircraft VT-AYC operational flight IX 348 (Abu Dhabi-Calicut) was involved in an airturnback due to No. 1 engine fire at 1,000 feet during climb,” the DGCA said.

Earlier, an Air India Express flight from Trivandrum to Mascot with 105 passengers on board turned back after developing a technical glitch, an Air India Express spokesperson said.

According to an airline official, there was a technical glitch in the Flight Management System (FMS) of the aircraft, due to which the flight had to turn back.
