About 25 lakh people have lost their lives due to involvement in TN’s vaccination campaign.

According to Health Minister Ma Subramaniam, 24.85 lakh people were vaccinated in a special vaccination drive organized on Sunday and with this about 60 per cent population of Tamil Nadu has received the first dose of COVID vaccination. It was 56 per cent before the special camp was held, he told reporters in Sirkazhi after inspecting a vaccination camp.

A total of 70 lakh people were vaccinated during the last three special vaccination camps organized on Sundays. In fact, for the third consecutive week, the number of vaccinations administered on Sunday crossed 15 lakhs.

The state had administered 16.43 jabs on 19 September. The first mega camp held on 12 September ended with a record 28.91 lakh vaccinations. While the target was to administer 15 lakh jabs, the state government was successful in vaccinating over 25 lakh. Around 20,000 centers were involved in the special vaccination camps organized across the state, the minister said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Tamil Nadu reported a decline in the number of coronavirus cases from 1,724 reported on Saturday to take the total number of cases in the state to 26,57,266.

After 1,658 persons were discharged, the total number of active cases in the state stood at 17,285. The number of deaths recorded was 14 and 1,55,245 samples were tested. According to the state health department data, Chennai had 190 fresh cases, while Coimbatore reported 196 cases.
