Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will hold a rally in Tripura on September 15. This will be the party’s first major rally in the state and will be held in Agartala, with TMC focusing on making inroads in the state.

Banerjee has visited Tripura twice in the last two months. A BJP MLA is also expected to join the TMC during the rally. Banerjee could also undertake a padyatra on that day.

The state capital was rocked by violence this week due to party clashes. “Tripura has become a place of misrule. Tripura is being run by a fascist government. People want change and on September 15 our national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will come and call for change,” said Subal Bhowmik, a TMC leader from Tripura. TMC will raise the issue of September 8 violence in its rally.

The BJP, however, is undermining the TMC’s campaign. “They are bringing in people from outside and instigating people. Tripura was a peaceful place and they are creating trouble. They do not have supporters here,” said a BJP leader.

Banerjee had earlier gone to Tripura to stand with the IPAC workers and again stood in solidarity with the arrested TMC leaders. An FIR was also registered against Banerjee. Sushmita Dev, a newly joined TMC, has also been camping in Tripura for the last 10 days.
