Aaron Finch ruled out with a knee injury; to have surgery

Australia captain Aaron Finch will be unavailable for the upcoming Bangladesh tour. The captain suffered a knee injury during the build-up to the five-match T20I series against West Indies, which only escalated when Australia faced the hosts in the final T20I. The team will now tour Bangladesh without him as he has left for Australia. Finch’s exit doesn’t bode well for the Aussies, who have a busy international schedule including the T20 World Cup.

Cricket Australia soon realized that Finch’s injury was serious and needed surgery. The team will hope that by the time the Aussies land in the UAE, he will undergo surgery and be fit.

. Finch, however, will have to serve a 14-day quarantine upon landing in Australia prior to surgery.

“I am extremely disappointed to go home,” Finch said on Sunday (25 July). It was considered the best course of action, rather than traveling to Bangladesh, for not being able to play and losing that recovery time. I will have surgery if needed and the recovery process will start before the World Cup.”

Meanwhile wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey will take over the reins from the 34-year-old; Matthew Wade has been named vice-captain. They will play a five-match series against Bangladesh from August 3.
