Ahmed Shehzad did not hold back as he went after the current Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s failures as a captain and accused him of showing favoritism in terms of selections as well.
While the return of Babar Azam as the captain of the Pakistan white-ball side might have gained a lot of traction across the cricketing fraternity, his performance as a leader might not be apt, especially in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The skipper has not been able to get the best out of his side with the Pakistan team on the verge of a group-stage exit after losing out to USA and India.

To add further fuel to the fire was none other than the Pakistan international, Ahmed Shehzad who slammed the current skipper for not stepping up as a captain nor as a batter in the big tournaments.
Speaking with Geo News, Shehzad went on a rant on-air where he openly criticised the current captain for not being the leader that is expected of him. He criticised the fact that despite Babar being given five years as a captain when most of his predecessors did not have such a privilege he wasn’t able to deliver the trophy. He also accused Babar of running the domestic circuit so as to prefer his accomplices rather than who was deserving.
“He could not bring any trophy for Pakistan. After that you have ruined the entire domestic structure, you are such a captain, you cannot unconventionally run the domestic team to bring in your friends,” Shehzad blasted Babar.
Shehzad called for Babar to accept the responsibility for his failure as a captain out in the open.
“If you cannot do anything then you can at least do this much that now you should raise your hands and say that I had all the support, PCB gave me everything, but I could not deliver, I got the players of my choice but I could not deliver for Pakistan, I am really really sorry, I am responsible,” he added.
The Pakistan cricket team have been under the spotlight since their disastrous start to the tournament. Babar Azam as a captain has also failed to step up with a shocking league-stage exit in the ODI World Cup 2023 and a likely exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 in the group stages.
