AAP Alleges Illegal Sand Mining in Channi’s Constituency Chamkaur Sahib

CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha on Saturday alleged that illegal sand mining was being carried out in Chamkaur Sahib, the parliamentary constituency of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, as he conducted a surprise inspection of a village there. Terming it as an “exposure”, the AAP leader also accused the ruling Congress in the state of “protecting” the sand mafia.

Chadha made the allegation after visiting Jindapur village in Chamkaur Sahib. “Illegal sand mining has been exposed in Charanjit Singh Channi assembly constituency. This is the biggest revelation that will shake the politics of Punjab,” Chadha told reporters on the spot.

“We are in Jindapur village, which is in Chief Minister’s constituency Chamkaur Sahib. Illegal sand mining is openly happening here. Illegal sand is being brought in trucks,” the AAP leader said. Chadha said that when Channi became the CM, he had announced that people associated with sand mafia should not try to contact him.

He alleged, but here we can see that this mafia is enjoying the patronage of the ruling organization. He said that according to his estimate, 800 to 1,000 trucks, called tippers, were loaded with sand from the site.

“This illegal activity is going on under the nose of the Chief Minister and in his own constituency,” he alleged. Hoardings of Channi can be seen in the state that his government has curbed various mafia. The fact is that illegal mining is taking place in his own constituency, so his claims are hollow. Another claim is that people are getting sand at the rate of Rs 5 per cubic feet. Hollow too,” claimed Chadha.

He said that AAP wants to know how many such sites are in Punjab where this illegal activity is going on. “Chief Minister Channi should answer,” he said.

Chadha also alleged that a forest officer had recently written to the local SHO and Tehsildar about illegal mining in Jindapur village. In the letter, the official mentioned that the land comes under the forest department and activities like mining cannot be carried out there, Chadha said, referring to the site at Jindapur.

“He wrote the letter on November 22 and one day he was transferred,” Chadha said. Later in a tweet, Chadha wrote, ‘Mega expose by AAP on Channi Sarkar of Congress which can shake the politics of Punjab. Mafia, scams and loot are being exposed in the Chief Minister’s own constituency. ,
