AAP Accuses BJP of Reneging on Its MCD Poll Promise of In-situ Rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers

Under the Kalkaji Extension Project, in-situ slum rehabilitation of three slum clusters – Bhumihin Camp, Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp – is being done in a phased manner.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday accused the BJP of going back on its MCD election promise of rehabilitating slum dwellers in the national capital.

AAP MLA Atishi told a press conference that just before the MCD elections on December 4, the prime minister had inaugurated 3,024 flats in Kalkaji and handed over the keys to eligible beneficiaries in the landless camps.

He said the BJP had told about 40,000 residents of Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp, located opposite the Bhumihin Camp, that they would also be given flats in their place.

“It has not been a month and the DDA has pasted notices at Navjeevan and Jawahar camps, informing the people living there that they will be shifted to Narela and break JJ clusters,” Atishi said, referring to the notices. will be given.”

He said that till these people do not get their homes, the Arvind Kejriwal government will not allow the JJ cluster to be bulldozed.

There was no immediate reaction available from the BJP.

DDA is undertaking rehabilitation of 376 slums in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to provide housing for all. The rehabilitation project aims at providing better and healthier living environment to the residents of JJ Cluster.
