Aamir Khan has denied rumors that he and Kiran Rao parted ways as he was reportedly dating someone else. Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, who were together for 15 years, announced their divorce on July 3, 2021.
In an interview with News18 India’s Kishore Ajwani, Aamir opened up about his highly publicized divorce from Kiran last year. Talking about his separation from Kiran, Aamir recalled that many years ago, he had told her that he was not interested in his family.
“She used to tell me that even when we discuss something as a family, I always get lost. She said that I am a different kind of person. She said very sweetly, ‘I don’t want you Change because if you change you will not be the same person I fell in love with. I love your mind and your personality. So, I would never want you to change. But today when I reflect on what Kiran said to me seven years ago, I would say last 6-7 months I have seen a lot of changes in myself.”
When asked if this was the reason for their divorce, Aamir clarified, “Kiran and I love each other a lot. We have a lot of respect and love for each other. But people don’t get it. And I accept it because we don’t usually see it. Actually, Kiran and I realized that we like each other a lot and consider each other as family in the true sense. Kiran and I are actually family But there was a marked change in our husband and wife relationship and we wanted to respect the institution of marriage. However, we are always going to be by each other’s side. We are working together. We live close. But now we are not husband and wife and so we decided to leave it.”
Aamir also clarified that he did not divorce his first wife Reena Dutta because of Kiran. “When Reena and I parted, there was no one in my life. A lot of people think that Kiran and I met Reena before divorce but this is not true. Kiran and I met but we didn’t really know each other and we became friends much later.”
When asked whether his divorce with Kiran was due to some other relationship, Aamir flatly denied, “No. There was no one then, there is no one now.”
Describing their divorce as the beginning of a “new journey”, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao had said in a joint statement, “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown. In trust, respect and love. Now we would like to start a new chapter in our life – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family to each other. ”
