Jonny Bairstow, David Malan and Chris Woakes withdrew from the second phase of IPL

Former India opener Aakash Chopra is not very impressed with the withdrawal of England players from the Indian Premier League and believes that IPL Franchisees will not forget the recent withdrawal to pick their team in the next auction.

Jonny Bairstow, David Malan and Chris Woakes have withdrawn from the second phase of the IPL. Jos Buttler is already out while Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are unavailable for the rest of the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad recently named a replacement for Jonny Bairstow and Punjab Kings brought in Aiden Markram as David Malan’s replacement. Delhi Capitals are yet to announce a replacement for Chris Woakes.

Chopra said, “England players have to be a little aware that when you remove your name from the IPL season, the franchise that bought you feels cheated, they feel that you have cheated them.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that such last-minute withdrawal is tantamount to cheating the franchise. He said that the pandemic has taken a toll on the players and with these sudden absences, the franchises will have to re-examine all their strategies as their plans would have failed.

He further said that when the next auction takes place, the franchises will remember the players who stood by them in this difficult time and the players who did not come. He cited the example of Mitchell Starc, who has withdrawn not once, but twice and, therefore, may not attract large bids in future auctions.

Some reports suggest that the IPL franchises are not very happy with the late return of the English players and have lodged their complaints with the BCCI. He has also talked about how these actions were in violation of the agreement between the two sides.
