Aadhar Card: Dial 1947 to find nearest Aadhar centre, updates and other services

Aadhaar is the most diverse and intricately linked identity card in India as it links us to every aspect of our daily lives. From electricity and gas bills to our bank accounts, it is all linked to a single card. In the past, the process of updating and changing one’s Aadhar card information was a long and arduous process, and these days with the pandemic, it had to change. Keeping in view the present scenario, Aadhaar Issuing Authority, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has made some changes in the existing system which allows people to make the said changes from the comfort and convenience of their homes. In a tweet, UIDAI announced that people can now visit the official website and request and even change the information on their Aadhaar through the said portal. UIDAI has also released a helpline number – 1947 or 1800-300 1947 which operates 24X7 on all 365 days of the year – which can help in bringing customers on the same page with new services.

This four-digit number is an automated voice message that doubles as a toll-free, information directory for all new changes. It operates through a sequence of number inputs when the person is guided by a voice message. The helpline handles all queries, from answering questions about new procedures to documents one might need, knowing the status of one’s Aadhaar enrollment or simply locating the nearest centre.

In a tweet sent by UIDAI, the public was asked to call the toll-free number 1947 or send an email to the official ID- help@uidai.gov.in. The tweet explained that the number would allow to check Aadhaar enrollment status, but would require an Enrollment Identification (EID) with time and date.

In another tweet, UIDAI said that the number can also be used to locate the nearest Aadhaar Kendra centre. This is done by calling the toll-free number, selecting the language of your choice, and then following the instructions until the number sends you to a customer service representative, who will help you with your problem.

With such new changes, people can also update their demographic data. This includes changing information related to one’s name, date of birth, gender, address, mobile number and even language. Other information updates such as biometric data need to be done in person at your Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Enrollment/Update Center

UIDAI has made it easy for people to locate their Aadhaar Seva Kendra online or through a toll-free number. Aadhaar cardholders can avail three options for this: Search by State, Pin Code and Search Box if they do it through the online portal. The Aadhaar issuing body has also introduced the mAadhaar app, which has all these features, all at the touch of a button.
