NS Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, has launched a number of services so that an Indian citizen has to face the least amount of hassle in accessing anything with his/her Aadhar card information. This is because the 12 digit verifiable identification number, issued by the UIDAI for Indians, has become important for performing a number of government and non-government functions, most of which are critical. With the ever-evolving resolutions of the Authority, Aadhaar Card related services are just a click away. UIDAI has enabled residents of India access their aadhar card online, Updating Aadhaar details can also be done easily on the UIDAI website.
However, the Internet is something that has not reached every nook and corner of India even today. For this, the government has announced a scheme under which more than 7,200 villages will be provided 4G internet connection. But it will take time till November 2023 to complete it. For those places where there is no internet connection, UIDAI has come up with an alternative solution. One can now access Aadhaar services through a simple SMS. For this one does not need to login to the UIDAI website or download the Aadhaar app. The user does not even need to have a smartphone to access the services through SMS. This can be done through a simple mobile phone without internet connectivity and with basic facilities.
Aadhar card holders can access a range of different services through this facility provided by UIDAI. These include Virtual ID Generation, Virtual ID Retrieval, Aadhar Lock Service, Aadhar Unlock Service etc.
Anyone can access this service by sending an SMS to the hotline number 1947 from his registered mobile number. Users can also note that OTP generation is required to avail SMS locking and unlocking services to use Aadhaar facilities.
how to generate virtual id
a) To use this feature, open your mobile’s message box and type/compose a message
b) Enter the last four digits of the registered Aadhaar number along with GVID (SPACE) and phone number there. This SMS hotline number 1947. send over
c) To get the Virtual ID, type: RVID (SPACE). Then type the last digit of the aadhaar number
d) An OTP can be generated in two ways – 1. Though Aadhar Number, and 2. Through VID.
e) To receive OTP through Aadhaar number, type GETOTP (space) and enter the last four digits of the relevant Aadhaar number.
f) To get One Time Password through VID – type GETOTP (space) and enter last 6 digits of your official Virtual ID in the message box and send to hotline number.
how to lock and unlock aadhar via sms
If you are using your Aadhaar number then the format is as follows:
SMS 1: GETOTP (space) Last 4 digits of Aadhaar number
SMS 2: ENABLEBIOLOCK (SPACE) Last 4 Digits of Aadhaar Number (SPACE) 6 Digit OTP that you will receive.
If you’re using your VID instead:
SMS 1: GETOTP (SPACE) The last 6 digits of your VID are required.
SMS 2: ENABLEBIOLOCK (SPACE) Last 6 digits of your VID (SPACE) 6-digit OTP.
If Aadhaar number of multiple dependents is linked to the same mobile number, and when last 4 digits of Aadhaar number are same for at least 2 dependents, second SMS should be sent as ENABLEBIOLOCK (SPACE) Aadhaar number. 8 digit (space) 6 digit OTP. For VID approach use the format: ENABLEBIOLOCK (SPACE) Last 10 digits of VID (SPACE) 6-digit OTP.
