A PIL has been filed in Calcutta High Court against betting on Kalipujo

Durga Puja is going to be held as per the rules of Kolkata High Court. There are still three days left for Durga Puja to begin. But this time a PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court demanding a ban on fireworks in Kalipujo. A division bench of Justice Indraprasanna Mukherjee allowed the matter to be filed. In 2020, the Calcutta High Court had banned the burning of firecrackers due to the coronavirus.

If the holiday bench upholds the ban on firecrackers, then this year also no fireworks will be allowed. When a fire burns, smoke comes out of it. Many people have trouble breathing. Not only this, the corona virus has not weakened yet. Therefore, it has been said in the public interest case affidavit that betting should be banned.

According to sources in the Calcutta High Court, Justice Indraprasanna Mukherjee will hear the matter. Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal was also sought permission to hear the matter on Thursday. Justice Indraprasanna Mukherjee was allowed to hear the matter today. The matter is likely to be heard next week.

It is worth noting that the betting market in the ground has already been closed indefinitely. Because you cannot make a profit by selling bets. It was also stated that one cannot bet in Kalipujo in 2020. The Calcutta High Court had ruled that no bets could be sold. Betting was banned across the state. It remains to be seen whether this directive is applicable or not.
