A message on cabinet expansion is likely to be received from BJP high command in two days: Karnataka CM Bommai

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said he is likely to get a message on cabinet expansion from the BJP high command in a few days and will once again leave for New Delhi to finalize it. “I could not meet JP Nadda (BJP national president) today, but met him yesterday.

Most likely they will send me a message in two days and I will have to go to Delhi once again. We will finalize the cabinet.”

Asked whether the expansion of the cabinet will happen in two phases, he told reporters here on his return from Delhi that it is yet to be disclosed. Bommai was on a two-day visit to Delhi during which he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Nadda, Karnataka Union ministers, MPs and ministers, among others.

Meanwhile, ministerial candidates continue to lobby for a place in the new cabinet. While several MLAs, including some former ministers, are camping in Delhi and lobbying for a place in the new cabinet, some have expressed their desire to become ministers.

According to party sources, some MLAs like Ramesh Jarkiholi, MP Renukacharya and Munirathna have met former chief minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa at his residence here. Seeking ministerial berth, Haveri MLA Nehru Olekar said that he should be given a chance in the new cabinet and it was the wish of the party workers of the constituency, who also protested.

“Our fight will not end. This is the third time and I should be given a chance… I am sure the leaders will bless me. No chance has been given by the BJP to anyone from the Chalwadi community till now, whereas the Congress has because There is a fear of him going towards the Congress.”

Senior BJP leader and former minister KS Eshwarappa said he has been getting several calls that Yeddyurappa should have been made the chief minister after his removal and at least he should be made the deputy chief minister now. He said, ‘This decision has to be taken by the high command.

Stating that cabinet formation is left to the discretion of the Chief Minister, another senior leader and former minister V Somanna said Basavaraj Bommai is close to him and has experience. “His father was also a CM, and would choose his cabinet ministers.” Downplaying reports of a rift between himself and another senior BJP leader R Ashok, he said, “It is an internal matter between us. It is an old issue and it has nothing to do with cabinet formation or becoming a minister.”

Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah urged for the formation of the cabinet at the earliest, as CM alone cannot handle things, meanwhile the authorities should be directed to take measures to manage the flood and COVID situation, he said. Said. “I don’t think he (CM) discussed cabinet expansion during his Delhi visit. Maybe he can go once again… but he should have discussed it and given the current situation,” he said. It should have been finalised.”

Bommai, who was elected as the new leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Tuesday after Yeddyurappa’s resignation, took oath as the Chief Minister on Wednesday. Expanding the ministry will be the first major challenge before the new chief minister as he will have to go through the cabinet formation exercise while maintaining a balance between factions within the ruling BJP.

There are many candidates among the old leaders and youth of the party. There are also MLAs who joined the BJP in 2019 after leaving the Congress-JD(S) alliance.
