The 28-year-old went on to become GT’s top run-scorer, scoring 487 runs, including four half-centuries and taking eight wickets.

“He (Pandya) has been fantastic, I have seen working with him. He is a high-profile player in India but he is incredibly humble, wants to learn as a leader and connect with his players which is really important. He has tried to help the youngsters, he has come and taken on a different responsibility,” Kirsten said during the post-match interview.

Kirsten said that throughout the season he learned to find versatile players. Regarding GT’s win, Kirsten said, “It’s great, really happy for the guys, they’ve put a lot into the tournament, great for Ashish (Nehra) and Vikram (Solanki) too.”

He added, “You are looking for good balance, good depth in the auction but most importantly you are looking for players who can play different roles, one thing we learned with Ashish Which is looking for people with versatility, and at 4, 5 and 6 – we’ve found that.”

“…we’ve had a great bowling attack – we went through a strong bowler and a batsman till the end, but we were always confident of finding good balance in the team.”

Kirsten said that he is continuing to learn as a coach. “You never stop learning as a coach, every IPL is a learning experience, which I enjoy. I love working with Ashish, he’s really tactically strong – trying to make a gameplan fly together isn’t easy. There are a lot of changes in every game, but the responsibility I have taken, the players to win the game for us,” he said.
