Chandigarh On Alert Following Suspected Grenade Blast

A suspected grenade blast shook a locality in Chandigarh on Wednesday near a house reportedly owned by a non-resident Indian. An explosion around 6:15 PM sent ripples in the locality. Locals claimed the sound of the blast was heard over a kilometer away.

Eyewitnesses, CCTV Footage Give Clues

According to eyewitnesses, the three suspects arrived at the scene in an autorickshaw shortly before the blast. The CCTV had captured the explosion; the blast had occurred with 14-second seemingly running footage in a 30-second clip of footage of the vicinity. This footage is presently under scan to trace the suspects.

Authorities Mobilized

The Chandigarh Police, accompanied by forensic experts from the CFSL, did not take too long to reach the spot to collect evidence and establish the type of the explosive device. Reports also surfaced that the suspects escaped in the autorickshaw, probably in the direction of Mohali district, thereby alerting the local authorities there as well.

Increased Security and Search Operations

SSP, Mohali sent an urgent message to all field officers wherein sensitization of police was made in regard to suspicious grenade blast and tightening of security at all checkpoints with increase in police patrols. Cooperation is going on between Chandigarh and Mohali Police in investigating and arresting the suspects to round up and assure the public about their safety.
