Star Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne was involved in a heated conversation with on-field umpires on Wednesday over a fair catch during the T20 Max semi-final match played in Brisbane.

Star Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne was seen losing his cool on Wednesday (September 11) during the T20 Max semi-final match played between Redlands and Valleys at Allan Border Field in Brisbane. The 30-year-old right-handed batter, who is the leading run scorer for Baggy Greens in World Test Championship (WTC) history, got engaged in a verbal batter with on-field umpires over a controversial call, and he was later charged for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision.

The incident took place during the seventh over of the second inning of the knockout match. Labuschagne, who was leading Redlands, lost his cool after the on-field umpire declared opposition batter Hugh Weigben not out. It was a controversial decision, and as a result, Labuschagne aggressively argued with the umpire because he thought it was a fair catch.

The discussion continued even after the next ball before the official apparently told him to walk away. After that over, the two umpires convened mid-pitch, drawing speculation from the commentators of the possible consequences Labuschagne might face for his behaviour.

The Aussie ODI World Cup winner was later charged with level 2 dissent, although he could be suspended by Cricket Australia for his behaviour after likely facing a tribunal hearing.

Labuschagne to play in the ODI series against ENG

Labuschagne, who made his international debut for the Aussies against Pakistan on October 7, 2018, during a Test match played in Dubai, is set to travel to England later this week to take part in the five-match ODI series against the 2019 World Cup winners.

The first match of the series is scheduled to take place at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday (September 19), and the next four matches will be played on September 21, 24, 27, and 29 in Leeds, Chester-le-Street, Lord’s, and Bristol, respectively.

Labuschagne, who has 1656 runs to his name in 52 ODIs played so far, scored an unbeaten half-century for the Pat Cummins-led side in the ODI World Cup 2023 final played against India at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.

He remained unbeaten on 58 runs from 110 balls in that match and was involved in a 192-run partnership with Player of the Match Travis Head (137) for the fourth wicket.
