India started Tuesday day with 15 medals in their kitty and added five more to increase their medal tally to an all-time high 20 at the Paralympic Games 2024, surpassing their previous best of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.

The Indian contingent enjoyed a record-breaking day as they increased their medal tally to an all-time high 20 at the Paralympic Games 2024 underway in the French Capital City of Paris.

India started the day with 15 medals in their kitty and added five more to their credit as sprinter Deepthi Jeevanji bagged bronze in the women’s 400m T20 event, while javelin throwers Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar finished second and third in the men’s f46 event.

High jumpers Sharad Kumar and Maiyappan Thangavelu claimed the silver and bronze double in the men’s t63 event.

Shooter Avani Lekhara, who was eyeing a second medal at the quadrennial in Paris had to settle for a fifth-place finish in the women’s 50m 3 position event, while archer Pooja was shown the exit door in the quarterfinal of the women’s recurve event.

Para Athletics: Women’s 400m T20 final  – Deepthi Jeevanji got the ball rolling on the day as she bagged the bronze medal with a time of 55.82 seconds.

Para Athletics: Men’s high jump T63 final – Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu struck a silver-bonze double with efforts of 1.88m and 1.85m. While Shailesh Kumar finished fourth with a best attempt of 1.85m.

Para Athletics: Men’s javelin throw F46 final – Ajeet Singh finished second with a best throw of 65.62m, while Sundar Singh Gurjar came in third with an SB of 64.96m. Rinku posted an SB of 61.58m to finish fifth.

Para Shooting: Women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1- Avani Lekhara finished seventh with a score of 1159 to earn progress to the final of the event, before managing a fifth-place finish in the medal round. Compatriot Mona Agarwal finished 13th in the qualification round with 1149 points and failed to progress.

Para Athletics: Women’s shot put F34 final – Bhagyashree Jadhav posted a best effort of 7.28m to finish fifth.

Para Archery: Women’s individual recurve open– Pooja went down 4-6 to Wu Chunyan of China in the quarterfinal after having got the better of Sengul Yagmur in the 1/8 elimination round earlier in the day.
