From MS Dhoni’s winning six in the World Cup final to the famous Test victory in Gabba, many historic events in Indian cricket have been made more memorable by legendary commentators like Ravi Shastri and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Nowadays, tournament organisers pay close attention to the commentary panels as they play a crucial role in making the events more engaging. Apart from English and Hindi, regional commentary has become quite popular in India. But what are your thoughts on cricket commentary in pure Sanskrit?

A man from Bengaluru made it possible and his video was a hit on social media. An influencer, Samashti Gubbi, dropped the clip on Instagram with the caption, “We got Sanskrit Cricket before GTA 6. Can we say we earned our country’s favourite Sanskrit Cricket Commentator?”

The video opens at a local ground in Bengaluru where youngsters are seen playing gully cricket. As the bowler starts his run-up, a man on the sidelines begins the real-time commentary of the on-field proceedings in Sanskrit.

People were visibly impressed by the commentator, who stole the show with his deft pronunciation and fluency. He changed his tone when the batter struck a powerful shot and the spectators lauded his efforts with a huge round of applause.

“The bowler has the ball in his hand. The bowler is coming from a long way. Everyone looks, he hits a good shot and runs to complete a run. They go to talk to each other. Now let’s see what happens next. Everyone is playing with enthusiasm,” the man said in Sanskrit.

The video has already garnered over 29 lakh views. Many cricket enthusiasts showed a thumbs-up to the concept of Sanskrit commentary. One of the viewers suggested that “Jio Cinema should add Sanskrit to the language options.”

Another user said, “Now God can also watch cricket from up there.” A person feels doing Sanskrit commentary is “another level of flex.” An individual assumed how it would feel if someone did “Sanskrit commentary during Mahabharata.”
