Amala Paul REACTS To Hema Committee Report, Calls It ‘Disturbing’: ‘I Hope There Will Be Justice’

Amala Paul has praised the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) and expressed hope that every victim receives justice in the wake of Hema Committee Report.

Actor Amala Paul reacted to the Justice K Hema Committee report on sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry. Speaking at a hospital opening, she described the findings as “disturbing and shocking,” according to Onmanorama. Amala also praised the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) and expressed hope that every victim receives justice.

She said, “Very disturbing and shocking things emerged from the Hema Committee report. I hope there will be justice for this. There was a strong group of women, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) who worked tirelessly to bring this report to the public. They weren’t alone in this effort; they had the support of the legal system as well.”

Amala Paul was recently seen in the Malayalam psychological thriller film Level Cross. The film is written and directed by debutant Arfaz Ayub and stars Asif Ali, Amala Paul and Sharafudheen.

Mohanlal also recently broke him silence on the report. Mohanlal, who was attending the launch of the Kerala Cricket League in Thiruvananthapuram, welcomed the Hema Committee report, saying, “The Hema Committee report is welcoming. I have been before the committee twice. My request: Please don’t destroy the industry.” He added, “We welcome the Hema Committee report. It was the correct decision by the government to release that report.”

Reflecting on his role, he added, “I was AMMA president for the last two terms. The entire Malayalam cinema is answerable to the Hema Committee report. What we are seeing is that all questions are directed only at AMMA. AMMA cannot give answers to all the questions. Everybody should be asked these questions. This is a very hard-working industry. A lot of people are involved in this, but not everyone is to be blamed in this. The responsible ones will be punished.”
