Cummins, who led Australia to ODI World Cup and World Test Championship titles last year, has picked up 66 wickets in 57 T20Is played so far, in addition to scoring 158 runs.

Australian men’s Test and ODI cricket team captain Pat Cummins has no plans to quit the shortest format of the game in the near future, and instead he has set his sights on winning a gold medal for Australia in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Cricket will make its comeback at the Olympics after more than 100 years during the next edition of the games.

The cricket matches will be played in T20I format, and according to Cummins, who became the fifth Australian skipper to win the ODI World Cup title last year, he hopes to help the Aussies win the gold medal at the Olympics.

“Watching the Olympics got us all excited. You want to be part of it right there in the middle,” Cummins was quoted as saying by Fox Sports. “I’d love to be on that side (at LA28). I think I’ll be 35 or something, so hopefully still there or thereabouts.”

“Honestly, right now, it feels a long way away. Maybe once we get closer and start building into it, everyone gets a bit more excited,” he added.

Cummins, who is one of the best cricketers of the current generation, is taking an eight-week long break from cricket and wants to come fully prepared for the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. India will travel to Australia in November for a five-match Test series that starts on November 22 in Perth.

According to Cummins, the coveted trophy is the only thing that he hasn’t won, and he is desperate to win it under his captaincy.

“It’s the trophy I haven’t won before… This is the one trophy a lot of our group hasn’t ticked off,” Cummins said.

“We’ve achieved some amazing things over the last few years as a Test group. You kind of back yourself to win every series at home. I think you need to try and be up there in the upper echelon of teams.”

“That’s what lies ahead of us this summer. They’re (India) a really good side. We play them quite a lot; we know them really well, but we feel like we’re really well placed also,” he added.
