The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating the alleged rape and murder of the trainee doctor in Kolkata, on Friday said that they have identified at least 30 people involved in the case, whose names were provided by the victim’s family.

Sources from the CBI told News18 that they are now looking for a larger conspiracy, suggesting that the incident might have been orchestrated to “suppress something”.

Over the past three days, the probe agency has questioned more than 30 individuals and has uncovered some leads, sources added.

The Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation from Kolkata Police to the CBI on Tuesday. The police had initially been handling the case.

Victim’s Family Believes Colleagues Involved In Crime

The parents of the post-graduate trainee doctor, whose semi-nude body was found inside the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week, told the CBI that several interns and physicians from the hospital might be involved in the crime, news agency PTI reported.

“The parents told us that they suspect the involvement of multiple persons behind the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They have given names of a few interns and doctors who worked with her at the hospital,” the CBI officer said.

Meanwhile, the agency is prioritising the questioning of these individuals as well as officers from the Kolkata Police who were part of the initial investigation.

On Friday, the CBI summoned a house staff member and two post-graduate trainees who were on duty with the doctor on the night she was murdered. The agency also escorted former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for questioning.

Ghosh, who resigned two days after the body was discovered, had expressed concerns about potential attacks, prompting his lawyer to seek protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court had advised him to approach a single bench for further action.
