Shah Rukh Khan spoke about his ‘normal’ family.

Shah Rukh said that while they may look alien from the outside, they are a normal family.

Shah Rukh Khan is one of the biggest superstars in the world yet, people always praise him for his humility and kindness towards everyone he meets. He wants his kids, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam to remain humble as well and acknowledge the privileges that his superstardom affords them. In a recent interaction at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where he was honoured with the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera Award, the superstar said that his family is “normal”.

Shah Rukh Khan said, “Beyond my drop-dead gorgeous looks (grins) and stardom, we are a normal family. I know it looks alien and different from the outside. But I want my kids to be humble about their privileges. The wife (Gauri Khan) keeps the balance with her wisdom. At the core of it is simplicity. I’m just someone who found a way to spread happiness, so they support me.”

Shah Rukh added that his family asked him whether he had gotten tired of his job after nearly 30 years. He said, “I know I am limited. I don’t have the scope more talented actors have but I don’t want to give up. My family asks me how I don’t get tired. Acting keeps me happy, not because I’m the focus, but because I might bring joy to someone I might never meet. I hate wearing makeup (for work), but I do it.”

Shah Rukh admitted he has never fully understood the concept of fame, saying that while he views stardom with a sense of detachment, he takes the love and adulation from his fans very seriously. He mentioned that stardom is a separate entity for him, distinct from his work and the genuine love and respect he receives from his fans.

“It has nothing to do with what I do and what they do. So I’ve never thought of stardom as anything important. Yes, I respect it a lot. It has given me a lot of recognition, love, monies. My family feels happy because of it. But beyond that, stardom is not something that I carry as the first thing when I walk into a room. For me, I’ve always said this. It’s an old thing I always felt. To me, I wear stardom like a T-shirt, not like a tuxedo. It’s not important,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan will soon be seen in King. The film will be directed by Sujoy Ghosh and Suhana Khan will be the lead along with her superstar father.
